Sarah is my kind of girl. We met for coffee to see if we would be a good fit for her October 2017 wedding and we connected immediately. Aria couldn’t make it to the meeting, but we had a lot of fun talking about work, their epic surprise engagement story and their upcoming wedding.
First of all, Aria is amazing. He pulled off quite the surprise proposal which isn’t easy to do when you have already been dating for a good number of years. Sarah and Aria knew they’d be getting married, Sarah was just waiting for him to pop the question.
On a visit to Sarah’s grandparent’s house in South Carolina, with her whole family visiting to celebrate Sarah’s grandmother’s 88th birthday, Aria popped the question. So as not to take away from the celebration of her grandmother, Aria, like a true gentleman, asked for permission from her grandmother… and got the green light!
With Sarah’s family in on the surprise, Sarah’s sister Katie had asked Sarah to take some nice photos of her and her husband on the beach. With no thought to a surprise proposal, Sarah snapped away. As it so happens with taking family photos of each other, they started moving more toward an oak tree over by a dock. In the spirit of capturing each other on this beautiful (but horrendously hot) day, one of the family member’s offered to take their photos. Why not!?
Standing next to her soon-to-be-fiancé, Sarah smiled for a photo. In one fell swoop, Aria turned Sarah toward him, dropped to one knee and asked her to be his wife. Six years was worth the wait!
When it came time to plan their engagement photos, I knew they didn’t want something ordinary. Sarah began talking about museums and quirky spots in D.C. My heart was leaping for joy because, YES, this is what I live for!
The National Building Museum came up in our discussion and Sarah’s mom had mentioned The Hive exhibit was in town and would be cool to capture during their session. We built their session around the amazing Hive exhibit, but wanted to explore the rest of the amazing museum, full of natural light and elements of downtown D.C.
These two went from silly to serious in a heartbeat. I’m pretty sure I had just as much fun as they did during their session and I can’t wait to see them this Saturday for their wedding and do it all again!
I would love to tell your story – your family story, your love story. Send me an e-mail and let’s chat about getting your story captured.
